Letter Coding Decoding - Analogical

Letter Coding Decoding

In this type, we deal with questions, in which the letters of a word are replaced by certain other letters according to a specific pattern/rule to form a code. You are required to detect the coding pattern/rule and answer the questions that follow, based on that coding pattern/rule.

Analogical Letter Coding : These are also called arbitrary codes. There are 2 definite principles/pattern involved. Codes are based on the analogy of one example from which different codes are to be formed.

Example 1:   If NETWORK is coded as O P C T R S Q, what can be coded as CROPS?

(a) TOMER           (b)TONES          (c) TONER         (d) TOSOS

Answer : (c)

Solution : In the above question, N = O, E = P, T = C, W = T, O = R, R = S and K = Q. So from these relations we can find the code for :

  • C =  T
  • R = O
  • O = N
  • P = E
  • S = R
  • Hence CROPS can be coded as TONER.

Example 2:   If INLAND is coded as BSTRSI, what is the code of the following ?

    (1) What is the code of IN

    (a) BS         (b)  RS             (c) SI             (d) TR

    Answer : (a)

    Solution : The coding is done as follows: I = B, N = S , L = T , A = R , N = S and D = I. So we can easily find the code for the following:

So, the code of IN is BS.

    (2) What is the code of AND.

    (a) ISI         (b)  SSI             (c) TTS          (d)  RSI

    Answer : (d)

    Solution : The coding is done as follows: I = B, N = S , L = T , A = R , N = S and D = I. So we can easily find the code for the following:

Then , the code of AND is RSI.

    (3) What is the code of LAND.

    (a) TRSI         (b)  RSSI             (c) TTSI            (d) TRBS

    Answer : (a)

    Solution : The coding is done as follows: I = B, N = S , L = T , A = R , N = S and D = I. So we can easily find the code for the following:

Then, the code of LAND is TRSI.

    (4) What is the code of LAID.

    (a) TRSI         (b)  TRBI            (c) TTSI            (d) TRBS

    Answer : (b)

    Solution : The coding is done as follows: I = B, N = S , L = T , A = R , N = S and D = I. So we can easily find the code for the following:

Then, the code of LAID is  TRBI.

    (5) What is the code of INN.

    (a) BSS       (b)  BII            (c) SSB            (d) TBS

    Answer : (a)

    Solution : The coding is done as follows: I = B, N = S , L = T , A = R , N = S and D = I. So we can easily find the code for the following:

Then, the code of INN is   BSS.

Example 3:   If SWFGHONTISO stands for OBSERVATION, code the following letters.

    (1) What is the code of RATION ?

    (a) ONTISO            (b) HNTISO              (c) JNTISO            (d)   FNTISO

    Answer : (b)

    Solution : The coding is done as follows: O = S, B = W, S = F, E = G, R = H, V = O, A = N, T = T, I = I, O = S, N = O

Then, the code of  RATION is HNTISO.

    (2) What is the code of RATE?

    (a) ONTI          (b) TISO              (c) HNTG            (d)   HMTG

    Answer : (c)

    Solution : The coding is done as follows: O = S, B = W, S = F, E = G, R = H, V = O, A = N, T = T, I = I, O = S, N = O

Then, the code of  RATE is HNTG.

    (3) What is the code of SEAT?

    (a) FGNT         (b) PGNT           (c) HNTG            (d)   GNTI

    Answer : (a)

    Solution : The coding is done as follows: O = S, B = W, S = F, E = G, R = H, V = O, A = N, T = T, I = I, O = S, N = O

Then, the code of  SEAT is FGNT.

    (4) What is the code of NOT?

    (a) OST        (b) SOT             (c) OOT        (d)   ISO

    Answer : (a)

    Solution : The coding is done as follows: O = S, B = W, S = F, E = G, R = H, V = O, A = N, T = T, I = I, O = S, N = O

Then, the code of  NOT is OST.

    (5) What is the code of NOTE ?

    (a) ONTI          (b) TISO              (c) OSTG            (d)   HMTG

    Answer : (c)

    Solution : The coding is done as follows: O = S, B = W, S = F, E = G, R = H, V = O, A = N, T = T, I = I, O = S, N = O

Then, the code of  NOTE is OSTG.

    (6) What is the code of BEST?

    (a) ONTI          (b) TISO              (c) HNTG            (d)   WGFT

    Answer : (d)
